How often should I service my car?

Manufacturers recommend that a car should have a full service every 12,000 miles or every 12months, and an interim service every 6,000 miles or every 6 months.

Some cars feature a self-diagnostic system, which may advise a service is required sooner, these warnings should not be ignored and a service should be scheduled for as soon as possible.

As well as the items included on the Interim Service, a full service includes replacement of engine oil, spark plugs, air and oil filter

Are an MOT and a Service the same thing?

No, an MOT is a legal requirement, an inspection which will involve checking the safety and road worthiness of a vehicle. A service is the repair and replacement of identified worn components. It is not a legal requirement but is very important in the maintenance of a vehicle.

Whilst having a service is going to cost you extra money, keeping your vehicle well maintained throughout the year will potentially save you money in the long run, especially important on high mileage vehicles.
